generations of travelers. See breathtaking and beautiful areas that
nobody other than intrepid hill walkers and farmers are likely to share.

novices and experienced 4X4 drivers alike. The experience is unique and

qualified and courses start with a safety brief. The treks include all
safety equipment and waterproof clothing.
Treks available include: Mini Madian - £20 (allow 1 hr), Action Madian - £40 (allow 2 hrs) and Maxi Madian - £80 (allow 6 hrs).
Lazer Sport: A
safe shooting sport for all ages and abilities which can be played
indoors or outdoors, day or night. Laser sport guns fire a harmless
infra red beam. Games available include Laser Sport, Rapid Fire and
Skill Shoot.
Paintball: If
you are an adrenaline seeker then this is the activity for you.
Paintball is set on a ravine, surrounded by woods with a stream running
along the bottom (just for those water babies who enjoy sneaking up on
the enemy the hard way!). With a variety of scenario's, the ravine is a
challenge in itself with the added surprise of the ambush!! A good fun
day out.
Horse riding: Award
winning Abergwynant Farm is one of the Pioneer Centres of Pony Trekking
in Wales. Easily accessible from the A493 road, just south of
Dolgellau, it is run as a mixed farm with sheep and over 60 horses kept
mainly for pony trekking. The treks are usually 2 hours long and are
run on several different routes - along the riverside, over the
mountain and foothills of Cadair Idris, past derelict gold mines and
through lovely Forestry Commission land overlooking the famous and
picturesque Mawddach Estuary.
Walking: There
are numerous walks available in and around Machynlleth and the Dyfi
Valley. These range from gentle valley walks to more strenuous hill
walks. For the more adventurous there is Aran Fawddwy and Cadair
Idris which are both within 10 miles of Machynlleth. For details of
walks in the area consults local guide books: 'Local Walks around
Machynlleth'' by Mike Thompson and 'Walks in the Dyfi Valley' by Dave
Perrott. Both guides are available from Reditreks.
Machynlleth
is also situated halfway along the recently opened Glyndwr's Way. The
trail, officially opened in Spring 2002, covers 132 miles of
breathtaking mid Wales countryside and is dedicated to the 15th Century
Welsh Warrior and self proclaimed prince Owain Glyndwr. The trail
begins at Knighton on the English borders and meanders its way through
open moorland, rolling farmland, woodland and forests of mid Wales to
finish beside the Montgomery Canal in Welshpool. The Offa's Dyke Path
National Trail connects Welshpool and Knighton and offers a circular
option for those wishing to complete the trail as a continuous walk.
Beaches: Machynlleth
is centrally located between two beaches, Aberdyfi to the north and
Borth/Ynyslas to the south, each a 15-minute drive.
Aberdyfi: A
thriving little harbour resort set within the Snowdonia National Park
where the river Dyfi meets the waters of Cardigan Bay. Aberdyfi has
water sports galore - sailing, sail boarding, canoeing, fishing and
boat trips. In the summer there are yachting regattas and other water
spectacles along with family entertainment on its award winning
beaches.
Borth/ Ynyslas: One
of this resorts greatest attractions is its beach, stretching for four
miles in an uninterrupted sweep from the small town of Borth to
Ynyslas. Pebbles and shingle slope down to firm, flat sand providing a
huge playground at low tide.
Road Touring: If
you want a bike ride without the mud there are some fine road rides in
the area where you can cover the miles on the main roads or for some
hilly rides try out some of the B roads. On the smaller roads you can
ride for 3 - 4 hours and count the number of cars you see on one hand.
You will also see some spectacular views. As Machynlleth is located on
National Cycle Route 8 there are several way marked circular rides.
Route advice is available from Tegid.
All the above activities can be booked through Reditreks.
